A Photo Essay

On November 1, 2007, while I was busy all day helping to judge a quilt show inside the Shelburne Farms Coach Barn in Shelburne, Vermont, my husband, "Jim," walked around the grounds of the vast 3,000 acre land area that borders Lake Champlain. From there, one can look across the water to the Adirondack Mountains of New York state. The conservation/land area is now maintained as a non-profit entity.

Shelburne Farms Coach Barn

The Shelburne Farms Coach Barn is the site of the annual quilt show of the Champlain Valley Quilters' Guild.

Shelburne: Many Hands Make Light Work

Meanwhile, in the other large hall, guild members are busy setting up quilt racks and are hanging quilts as they are carried from the judging area.

Totems

During his walk, Jim discovered this surprising sight:  totems!

Shelburne Inn

On the grounds is a building that was built at about the same time as the mansions of Newport, Rhode Island, according to one guild members. Once a family residence, today the building is used as an elegant inn. To see interior rooms, that are just fabulous, please visit:  www.shelburnefarms.org

Winding roads are a landscape feature

Another view of the Inn. Winding roads were a planned feature of the estate, so that there would be a new vista around every bend.

What a lovely spot, and a very inspiring one for those who love nature! The Shelburne Farms operates a store where they sell cheese and jams.

The quilt show will be available for public viewing on Saturday and Sunday, November 3 and November 4, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is only $5.00.  In addition to a lovely quilt display, there will be a silent auction, a raffle, crafts, a Merchant's Mall, the 2007 Hoffman Challenge Quilts, and refreshments.

We hope you've enjoyed this brief overview of the Champlain Valley Quilters' Guild 2007 quilt show and their show host, Shelburne Farms of Shelburne, Vermont.
