Redwork Embroidery and Needlework traditions in Europe and America

Cover of a book that has now been converted into an e-book.

There is a tremendous amount of information about Redwork on this website. The book whose cover is shown above, is a tremendous and valuable resource for information about Redwork, a type of needlework that gained popularity in the 1890s.

The Redwork fad came on the heels of the Crazy Quilt trend. Both techniques are considered to be Victorian needlearts. Nonetheless, they were both practiced a great deal throughout the twentieth century, although colors other than Red came into use as they became available and colorfast.

Today, needlework enthusiasts still enjoy Outline Stitch embroidery and love to replicate the old designs, such as those of the 1889 Coverlet that are featured in this book, as well as other designs of historical importance.

For your convenience, I have set up a Redwork Index which lists all of the Redwork articles and books on this site.
