This is a second example of a WWII Kaiser Ship Yards Pillow Cover.

This is the brown envelope, marked "Pillow" on the flap, that was used to mail the Kaiser Ship Yards pillow cover to Mrs. Jones, grandmother or great-grandmother of Andrew Jones. Photo courtesy of Andrew Jones.

This rare and charming World War II pillow cover is shown here, courtesy of "stadium.in.the.sky," an eBay seller. Does anyone know if the duck was a specific cartoon character? Write to: pat@quiltersmuse.com
Just A Word of Caution
Paper is a wood product, having its origins in wood pulp derived from trees. Any wood product is acidic. If you own one of these old pillow tops made of rayon or silk, it is NOT a good idea to store it in the original envelope due to potential acid migration onto the surface of the pillow.
These pillow tops are not easily cleaned. They are pieces of history, and should be carefully preserved as such. Make sure that they are kept lying flat, not folded.
In my book, Straight Talk About Quilt Care: Display, Cleaning, and Storage of New and Antique Quilts and Needlework, I have provided a lot of tips about storage, framing, etc. The book is now available, in its entirety, on this website.
As readers send photos of their textiles such as "Sweetheart Pillows," and/or any stories about the war that they care to share, I will be happy to add them here.
