This quilt should be called, "How do you spell Insanity?" This is a 1,039 piece charm quilt that is a reproduction of a late nineteenth century quilt collected in Maine. Each 1/2" hexagon was chosen to most simulate the scale, and motif of each of the 3 1/2" hexagons on the original quilt. It includes some authentic scraps of nineteenth century fabrics.

The quilt above, entitled "Keep the Home Fires Burning" was designed and made by Pat Cummings and utilizes the techniques of needleturn appliqué and trapunto. The miniature quilt is set into a faux wooden mantel setting constructed by Jim Cummings. The miniature tree skirt, in the foreground, was paper-pieced, and designed by Pat. Instructions for making it were published in the Holiday 2006 issue of The Quilter magazine. The Crazy Quilt tree ornaments are more of Pat's creations. Antiques, collectibles, and thimbles are the other items on the mantel, since so many of you have asked. |

Sunbonnet Sue Goes to the Beach This was a "grief" quilt, believe it or not. My brother Jack had just passed away and in making it, I was remembering the times we went to the beach as kids. The border quilting lines are motifs designed by Helen Squire and perhaps don't fit, scale-wise, but suited my mood at the time. |
On Windy Whispers "On Windy Whispers," a folk art style quilt designed and made by Pat Cummings, was inspired by the beautiful lyrics of the Bill Staines' song, "Redbird's Wing." It was exhibited from May 16-18, 2003, at the Appliqué Society Show in Sacramento, California. The lovely song may be heard on the Bill's CD, "The First Million Miles, Volume II." |
