James Cummings and I are proud to have been first to prepare a step-by-step set of photo-illustrated directions for the quilt block that was chosen by Donald Beld, the organizer of the Home of the Brave quilt charity project, to make quilts for the families of those fallen soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
We have supported the program in many other ways, including writing information about the Home of the Brave project that was published in The Quilter magazine. We have also made quilt blocks, as well as attending a New Hampshire work day and finishing one quilt top into a quilt. The top was made by another individual.
At this point in time, countless people have downloaded that particular file for making a block. There has been a tremendous outpouring of effort, expense, and concern by quilters to reach out to family members who have lost a loved one.
We support our troops, and the grieving family members who have lost someone in the War on Terror. However, we do wish that the war in Iraq would end, and that our American soldiers would come home, safe and sound, and be out of harm's way.
