Amazing Grace

A traditional Gospel song sung and played by Patricia Cummings

"Amazing Grace" was one of my father's favorite songs. As he lay on his bed, terminally ill, he would request that I sing it to him. Therefore, the song brings back potent meaning and memories to me, knowing what the hymn meant to him. I am happy that I could be a comfort to him in his last days. He always did love music.

Even though my voice is no longer strong and clear as it was in my youth, I still sing. In some ways, I am forever my father's child. I only regret that he never knew me as an adult, nor as a mother of my own child.

Today, I dedicate this song to my friend, Bob Rotruck, a constant contributor to this website with his delightful poetry. When he revealed that he loves this hymn, I decided to record it. While the song will never be "perfect," at least when I sing it, the sentiment is as meaningful as when John Newton (1725-1807) wrote the words. Here's to you, Bob.
